Iconic Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park official opens

Knowsley
Iconic facility Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park has been official opened by Olympic gold medal cyclist Chris Broadman.

This state-of-the-art facility is now fully operational with the spectacular new outdoor velodrome and BMX track now open and attracting interest from across the region.  Other facilities at the park have been open for 12 months, with the local community enjoying their benefits

The Park secured £500,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport England’s Iconic Facilities legacy fund, bringing the magic of a home Olympic and Paralympic Games into communities across the country.

“The investment we have made in Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park will give people inspired by the Games a fantastic facility in which to come and give sport a go,” said Charles Johnston, Sport England Property Director.  “We know that high quality facilities that offer a range of sporting activity can encourage many more people to take part in sport, ensuring we deliver a lasting legacy from the Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

The park includes state of the art facilities including performance, events and conference areas, a six court sports hall, two swimming pools, swimming spectator area for up to 300 people, fitness suite (up to 120 stations), dance studios and a squash court.

“This is a really fantastic facility, not just for Knowsley but for the whole region,” said Chris Boardman. “To have a world class velodrome here in the North West can only be a great boost for the sport of cycling.

“Having looked around the facility you cannot fail to be inspired by it – and I am sure a whole generation of cyclists in this region will be eager to get on the track and get racing!”

The Mayor of Knowsley, Cllr Norman Hogg, also said: "Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park offers our residents the very best leisure facilities, which are further enhanced with the opening of the new outdoor velodrome and BMX track. Given the recent success at this Olympics and Paralympics, as well as the Tour of Britain bike race, I am sure this has inspired many of our residents and I would encourage as many people to come along and see for themselves the world-class facilities we have available here in Knowsley.”
