Six medals on day six
On day six of London 2012, TeamGB
enjoyed fantastic success with a haul of six medals, three of them
gold.
The canoeists Tim Baillie and Etienne Scott
won gold at Lee Valley White Water Centre, just ahead of fellow
Britons David Florence and Richard Hounslow who took silver in the
canoe slalom C2 event. The two crews were faultless in their runs,
picking up no penalties to ensure that this was Britain’s most
successful day in the history of the sport.
Lee Valley is the only new London 2012 venue
that was opened prior to the Games for community use. £900,000 of
National Lottery investment by Sport England investment is already
delivering the legacy of world-class facilities for paddlers of all
ages and abilities.
The centre will re-open on September 8 so if
you’re interested in trying canoeing, kayaking or rafting in this
Olympic venue, visit
Lee Valley White Water Centre’s website.
Canoe England is working hard to get more
people involved in the sport through its Go Canoeing programme,
with starter sessions running across the country this summer. By
providing a range of captivating opportunities and resources, it
aims to demonstrate how fun and accessible canoeing can be. You can
find out more on the Go
Canoeing website.
There was more British success at the
Velodrome where Sir Chris Hoy took his personal gold tally to five
as he, Philip Hindes and Chris Kenny won the team sprint. Sport
England has invested £10.5 million of lottery funding in the
Velopark. After the Games, a road circuit and off-road trail will
be added to the existing facilities, catering for everyone from
recreational cyclists through to elite. More people than ever are
getting on their bikes every week - to find out how to join them,
visit the Sky Ride
website.
TeamGB’s third gold of the day was won by
shooting star 25-year-old Peter Wilson who won the double trap.
