Thriller Thursday at the Paralympics

David Weir and Jonnie Peacock

A golden night for British athletics finished off a phenomenal day for ParalympicsGB as the team won six golds and surpassed their 103-medal target for the 2012 Paralympics.

Jonnie Peacock was one of three champions on the track as he won the T44 100m in 10.90 seconds – the fastest time in Paralympic history.

Earlier Hannah Cockroft had completed a sprint double by winning the T34 200m before David Weir took his golden tally for the Games to three with victory in the T54 800m.

Sarah Storey now has 11 Paralympic gold medals after she won the cycling road race. That equals the tallies of Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson and David Roberts.

England Athletics is encouraging disabled people who feel inspired to give athletics a go to register their details at the England Athletics website so that the organisation can provide the right information about getting involved. People can also go to the Club Finder tool to find a club or Run England Group that suits them.

Clubs, coaches and event organisers can also find out more about the support and advice available to them from England Athletics.

Others successes for ParalympicsGB yesterday included Josef Craig in the S7 400m freestyle final, in a world record time, and a sailing gold for Helena Lucas.
