Over 4,000 people set to enjoy the Games thanks to Ticketshare
More than 4,000 Sport Makers and Sportivate participants will be
enjoying the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics live after
receiving tickets through the Ticketshare initiative.
Sportivate participants were eligible to receive tickets after
completing a sports course, missing no more than one session, and
then continuing to play sport for at least three months afterwards,
while Sport Makers who completed 10 hours or more organising or
leading sport in their local community were also eligible for
tickets.
Sport England Chair, Richard Lewis, said: “It’s great so
many people who’ve taken part in Sportivate and Sport Makers are
going to experience the excitement of an Olympic and Paralympic
Games. By giving sport a go or by helping someone else to get
involved, these participants have taken the first step to creating
a sporting habit for life whether it’s for themselves or someone
else.”
London 2012 Ticketshare is an exciting initiative that is
allowing many individuals who would not normally have access to the
Olympic and Paralympic Games the chance to attend. Tickets are
funded through a levy on London 2012 Prestige Ticketing hospitality
packages.
LOCOG Chief Executive, Paul Deighton, said:
“The Ticketshare initiative is giving many people from across the
country the chance to enjoy the magic of a home Olympic and
Paralympic Games. I’m delighted people who have put so much into
community sport, whether by organising sport or taking part, are
benefitting from this. By providing this opportunity we are ensuing
we inspire a generation.”
Sportivate aims to give 14- to 25-year-olds who currently aren’t
playing sport in their own time the chance to find a sport they
enjoy. They are then helped to find a club or venue where
they can keep taking part. Sport Makers are making sport
happen for their friends, neighbours or colleagues.
Both initiatives are part of Sport England’s Olympic legacy
programme Places People Play, which is bringing the inspiration and
magic of a home Games into communities across England and are being
delivered by the network of 49 county sports partnerships, working
with local clubs and providers.
