Let's hear it for the girls
Day 13 of the Olympic Games was not
only a fantastic day for Team GB but also a triumph for women’s
sport.
Boxer Nicola Adams made history by becoming
the first woman to ever win gold in boxing. Nicola is a huge
inspiration to women across Great Britain to get involved in the
sport. The club
finder on the Amateur Boxing Association’s website provides an
easy way to search for a club in your area.
History was also made by newly-crowned Olympic
champion Jade Jones who left the ExCeL arena with Britain’s first
ever medal in taekwondo. If you have been inspired by Jade’s
incredible performance, take a look at the British Taekwondo
website.
Finally, Charlotte Dujardin, who performed a
patriotic routine in the individual dressage, took home her second
gold. In 2011, Sport England invested £600,000 into
Ebony horse riding centre in Brixton which provides
opportunities for young people in East London to have a go at a
sport that they would not usually have the opportunity to try.
As well as the gold medals, Team GB saw
Keri-Anne Payne come in fourth place in the 10km open swim. She
later tweeted “Thank you all so much again for your lovely tweets.
I hope you all enjoyed watching today and feel like trying an open
water swim.” Those who wish to follow in Keri-Anne’s footsteps
should take a look at the British Swimming
website.
Day 14 will see more Brits compete for medals
with taekwondo stars Sarah Stevenson and Muhammad Lutalo beginning
their Olympic journeys at the ExCeL and Frankie Jones hoping for
success in the rhythmic gymnastics.
