Torchbearers

The Olympic Torch made an epic relay
around the whole of the United Kingdom before arriving at the
Olympic Stadium on 27 July.
Among the torchbearers were 53 inspirational
people nominated by Sport England for the commitment to grassroots
sport. These unsung heroes ran a leg of the relay for every day
that it was in England in celebration of their huge contributions
to sport.
From setting up Devon’s first disability
cricket team to running a football club for two decades that kept
countless young people out of gangs, these people demonstrate the
impact sports volunteers can have on communities.
From 16-year-olds to an 81-year-old who is the
heart of his local bowls club, each torchbearer has selflessly
given their time to both disabled and non-disabled sports.
