Cost guidance

This guidance provides a range of
information relating to the construction costs and ongoing
maintenance costs of typical good quality sports facilities that
the National Lottery has supported in the past together with
other facilities that we have received regular enquiries on for
cost information.
Our cost guidance is provided in two sections:
- Facility Capital Costs (often referred to as Planning Kitbag
Costs)
- Life Cycle costs
The Facility Capital Costs document is based on current day
typical cost estimates of sports facilities inclusive of Fees and
External Works ie typical out-turn costs of sports
facilities based on the usual assumptions of site conditions,
inflation and regional adjustments.
Costs are updated regularly in conjunction with information
provided by the BCIS (Building Cost Information Service) and other
Quantity Surveyors.
The document is often referred to as the Planning Kitbag costs
as the figures are often used by Planners and Developers when
reviewing potential Planning Contributions to site
developments.
Facility Life Cycle costs
The Life Cycle costs documents have been developed to
review the ongoing costs to keep a facility open and operational
over the life of the facility. Costs are therefore provided for
major replacement and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) (day
to day repairs).
The costs are expressed as a percentage of the capital cost.
Facility operators should not underestimate the importance of
regular maintenance and the expense in maintaining a facility
throughout its life.
