Playing fields are one of the most important resources for sport in England but many of them are waterlogged or in a state of disrepair. We are investing £15 million of National Lottery funding into improving community sports fields.
The programme is being delivered via five funding rounds with around £3 million being awarded to projects in each round. The first four rounds of funding has benefited 235 projects who have been able to either create new natural turf pitches or improve existing ones that needed leveling or drainage works.
Round 5 opened on 10 June 2013 and will close on 5 August 2013.
As a result of the programme creating, developing and improving approximately 300 playing fields, more people will be able to play sport at a good quality location near them.
