Budget costs for Protecting Playing Fields

To help you develop an application for your project and not have to incur costs, we have developed Budget Cost sheets for a range of typical playing field projects.

These can be downloaded from the links belows

Each Budget Cost sheet contains typical costs for capital and maintenance works to playing fields.

You need to select the Budget Cost sheet appropriate to your sport(s) along with the description of works considered to be the most appropriate for the playing field project you are applying for. This will be either works one, two or three.

These costs should be used when completing the application form in the Your Project Budget section unless you have received estimated from a qualified professional.

On the Budget Cost sheet you also need to look at

  • Initial maintenance works1 required following construction or improvement works
    and
  • Annual maintenance costs.

Here is an example of what you might choose for a project that will re-grade and improve the playing surface of a youth football pitch, including initial and annual maintenance costs

  Youth football
2 Re-grading and improvement of playing surface £19,800
A Initial maintenance following improvement works (12 months) £14,500
B Annual grounds maintenance cost £10,200

You will need to include these figures into your income and expenditure forecast.

The initial maintenance cost (A) needs to be shown as your Year 1 expenditure and the annual maintenance cost (B) should be shown in Year 2 and Year 3 under the Annual grounds maintenance cost heading.

Expenditure item Year 1 Year 2 Year 3
Annual grounds maintenance cost 14,500 10,200  10,200

By including these maintenance costs in your Income & Expenditure forecast you will need to consider how you will fund these costs in order to keep your new/improved pitch in good condition over the coming years.

1The initial and annual maintenance costs are based on the work being carried out by a specialist contractor
