Active People Survey 3

Active People Survey 3 began on 15 October 2008 and ran for 12 months until mid October 2009.

The full year results were published on 17 December 2009.  Headline sport results can be found below.  Results by geographical area are also available - these include results by region, county, local authority and for England as a whole. More detailed sport specific results can also be downloaded.

Key highlights from Active People Survey 3:

  • The number of adults in England who do sport at least three times a week has reached 6.93 million
  • Athletics and cycling have each achieved increases of over 100,000 participants in the past year (between 2007/8 and 2008/9)
  • The number of men playing sport three times a week has risen by 176,000 to 4.203 million
  • Regular participation among non-white adults has increased by 98,800 to 713,800.

During the course of 2009, we also published quarterly results based on the most recent 12 month rolling period (Active People Survey 2 and 3 data). Quarterly results were published in June and September 2009.
