Designing for Sport on School Sites Guidance
We provide a range of facilities and planning services designed
to develop strategic planning for sports facilities across England;
this includes specific guidance on the design of sporting
facilities on schools sites the specific issues therein, including
dual use, ie community access.
Design Guidance
We aim to improve facility design and modernisation to raise
standards across the sector, with a series of detailed design
guidance notes.
Strategic planning
It is important that any new sports facilities, including those
on school sites are planned in conjunction with strategic need and
existing leisure facility provision. It is therefore important to
ensure that the development of new sports facilities are
underpinned by a robust needs and evidence base.
Playing pitches
We also fulfil our duties as a statutory consultee on playing
field redevelopment.
Importantly Partnerships for Schools 'Readiness to Deliver
Guidance for Local Authorities in Waves 7 and beyond’(February
2009) includes a requirement for the completion of an up to date
Playing Fields Strategy prior to the remit meeting.

Community use agreements
For use by clubs to secure and maintain access to school
sites.
A key outcome for club growth and development is to secure and
maintain access to school sites
We have prepared a model community use agreement which can be
used where new or existing sports facilities need to be secured for
the use by the local community on School Sites.
