Further Education Colleges – key facts leaflet

Association of Colleges and British Colleges Sport have produced a leaflet for NGBs, CSPs and other community sport partners which outlines key facts about the college sector. This has been produced to help community sport develop their understanding of colleges which should be useful when trying to establish and develop relationships with the sector in the future.

London 2012 - Young Games Maker programme

London 2012 has made a commitment to using the power of the Games to inspire
young people and through the Young Games Maker programme more than 2000 16-18 year
olds will get the chance to volunteer at the Greatest Show on Earth, the London 2012 Olympic
and Paralympic Games.

To ensure that Young Games Makers have a fantastic experience, LOCOG are looking for
teams of young people, headed by a team leader who already works with them – like a
teacher, tutor or youth leader.

On the Right Track – new resources for student sports volunteering
in further education

Some new resources have been developed by runningsports in partnership with
Sport England’s Higher and Further Education Team and British Colleges Sport. 'On the
Right Track - A guide to supporting student sports volunteering in further education' offers
some basic advice to assist college staff to set up and run a sports volunteering programme,
or if your college already has a volunteering programme, then this resource may help you
review what you currently offer. It may also provide you with ideas about how you could
improve opportunities that currently exist.

'On the Right Track - A guide to supporting student sports volunteering in further education'.

'On the Right Track - Student Sports Volunteering' is aimed specifically at students and is
intended to be used to help guide and encourage them to start volunteering in sport, and/or
to help them progress on their volunteering pathway.  It includes some useful tools such as
a Volunteer Checklist and a pull-out poster which could be used to help students to think
about different ways of getting involved and making the most of their sports volunteering
experience.

Update on Places, People, Play - the London 2012 Mass

Participation Legacy

'Places, People, Play' is a £135 million initiative which has been made possible by the
Government's National Lottery reforms and will bring additional funding into grassroots sport.
It will be delivered by Sport England, in partnership with the Bristish Olympic Association,
the British Paralympic Association and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and
Paralympic Games.  It will bring the inspiration and magic of a home Olympics and Paralympics
into the heart of local communities, encouraging more people to get involved in sport.

Sport England HE/FE team will communicate with the FE sector as and when more information
becomes available on each of the programmes within the legacy plan.

publication of the ‘Future of Sport in Further Education Report’ and the next steps.

Download Sport England's statement on further education

As part of our target to get one million people doing more sport, Sport England believes that
300,000 of the participants could come from across the further and higher education sectors.

Sport England and the Association of Colleges recently commissioned Prospects4Sport to
undertake an independent study into the future of sport within the FE sector.

Over the past few months, Prospects4Sport have met with numerous stakeholders from across
further education and community sport to discuss current provision and how to improve the current
support structures.

Prospects4Sport have considered all consultation information, along with existing research to
produce a report outlining their recommendations for developing FE sport going forward.

Report launch presentation

The key findings and recommendations from the report were presented at an event on
Monday 1st March by Clare Howard and Jill Puttnam from Prospects4Sport. A video of this
presentation and the following question and answer session can be found below. The slides used
during this presentation can be found in the list of documents below.
