Biography

Sports have played an enormous role and impact in both my personal and intellectual development as a track athlete. Since my childhood days I recall always being ‘on the run’ and when my family and teachers took notice when I was 10 years old that I had a special ‘gift’ to run fast, I knew that I was born to run and that running was a sport I was destined to pursue to fulfill my ambition of being a world class and Olympic athlete.

With the support of my family I joined the local athletics club (Windsor, Slough and Eton) and my journey as a young athlete commenced. I initially trained two days a week and as I grew and developed the training days and workload increased. I started to compete in numerous competitions and was very fortunate to receive my first junior international when I was just 13 for England and it was an incredible experience representing my nation for the first time. I continued to make progress in the sprints and pushed and challenged myself always setting new goals and standards.

In 1997 I accepted an athletic scholarship to The University of Nebraska, USA and my entrance to intercollegiate (NCAA) began. I proudly represented the Nebraska Cornhuskers for five years and the highlight of my career was winning the Big 12 Championship 200m/400m, a silver medal at the National Championships and running the second fastest time in history for the 600 yards in 2001.

It has been through maintaining a strong work ethic, self motivation, drive, ambition, determination, dedication, discipline and my desire and hunger to achieve excellence on and off the track, that has enabled me to progress in athletics and stay focused.

My involvement in athletics has given me the opportunity to be a positive leader and role model to others; while my sporting journey has enabled me to meet many wonderful people and children who have impacted my life and continue to inspire me to always strive for excellence.

Who was your biggest influence?
