Self-assurance supporting outcome 2.7

All board members have completed declaration of interest forms. Declarations of interests are included on every board meeting agenda.

Things to Think About

  1. Is there a documented conflict of interest policy which has been approved by the board?
  2. Are all members clear as to what constitutes a declaration of interest? (For example, a member may, either through their non-board work or in a private capacity, have a financial or commercial interest in a decision the board is due to take.)
  3. Is there a procedure in place which requires board members to declare a commercial or other relevant interest when they join the organisation and to update their interests periodically (usually annually)?
  4. Does the procedure cover close family and friends as well as the member themselves?
  5. Do all your board/committee meeting agendas include a standing item which requires members to declare interests they may have in relation to items on the agenda?
  6. Are records of any interests declared at meetings included in the minutes?
  7. Do members either leave the room where they have declared an interest in an item under discussion and/or not vote in relation to those items?
