Self-assurance supporting outcome 2.7
All board members have completed declaration of interest
forms. Declarations of interests are included on every board
meeting agenda.
Things to Think About
- Is there a documented conflict of interest policy which has
been approved by the board?
- Are all members clear as to what constitutes a declaration of
interest? (For example, a member may, either through their
non-board work or in a private capacity, have a financial or
commercial interest in a decision the board is due to take.)
- Is there a procedure in place which requires board members to
declare a commercial or other relevant interest when they join the
organisation and to update their interests periodically (usually
annually)?
- Does the procedure cover close family and friends as well as
the member themselves?
- Do all your board/committee meeting agendas include a standing
item which requires members to declare interests they may have in
relation to items on the agenda?
- Are records of any interests declared at meetings included in
the minutes?
- Do members either leave the room where they have declared an
interest in an item under discussion and/or not vote in relation to
those items?
