Management and operation

As set out throughout these pages a realistic and clear
understanding of the likely income your facility can achieve is a
key starting point, alongside an accurate idea of
costs.
This basic financial management will be the critical factor
between sustainable success and failure.
Many school sports facilities have failed because they have
over-estimated the likely income, underestimated costs and adopted
unsustainable management approaches as a result.
It is important that opening up your facilities does not impact
detrimentally on the schools core focus or create a large
surplus.
It may even be necessary to generate income to help meet the
additional costs which arise from community use. However, the
benefits to the school of allowing community clubs into the
facility may offer non-financial advantages such as the creation of
after school clubs and the use of club coaches within curriculum
time.
To ensure that your vision is cost effective, make use of our
guidance and tools on Costs and income, Business planning, and Operational procedures.
