Sport England submission to Culture, Media & Sport Committee on 2012 Olympics
Sport England last week submitted its evidence
to the House of Commons Culture, Media & Sport Select Committee
on preparations for the hosting of the 2012 Olympics and
Paralympics.
As part of the Committee’s ongoing scrutiny of
the upcoming Games, the latest enquiry focuses on securing a
lasting legacy from the Games, from the social, physical and
economic regeneration viewpoints.
The submission reiterated Sport England’s role
as a strategic, national commissioning body; able to analyse
community sport across the country, and identify the best solutions
for each case. The document also outlines Sport England’s
work with NGBs, and the progress made in increasing autonomy and
the systems in place to ensure that NGBs adhere to their
responsibilities and targets. Finally, the submission
outlines the importance of long term investment to sustain progress
in increasing participation and creating a world leading community
sports system.
It is expected that the Culture, Media and
Sport Committee will produce a report on the back of this evidence
before parliamentary recess, which Sports Policy News will share
with stakeholders.
