Conservatives launch health policy paper
The Conservative Party published their green
paper on health on Wednesday, containing a number of
recommendations, namely devolving part of the public health budget
to local authorities in a bid to reduce the size of central
government. There were also several aspects of direct relevance to
school sports, including the reiteration of a previously announced
policy to create a School Olympics, to run alongside the 2012
Games.
The School Olympics is designed to increase
school participation in sport, and funding would come from National
Lottery reforms which would direct a greater proportion of Lottery
funding (£30million) towards sport. £10million a year of this
new funding would be given to the Youth Sports Trust to run the
School Olympics.
